Xbox Cloud Gaming app coming to Samsung TVs on June 30

Microsoft’s gaming business, Xbox, has announced the imminent launch of a standalone app dedicated to Samsung TVs.

The app will allow Xbox Game Pass Ultimate subscribers to stream over 100 console-quality games like Infinite Halo from the cloud in 1080p 60fps directly to their televisions. Xbox also has an agreement with Epic Games to allow Fortnite users to stream the game even if they are not a Game Pass subscriber.

The app will launch on June 30 in 27 countries on Samsung’s Game Hub – a feature only available on 2022 models. It’s currently unclear if the app will be available on older Samsung TVs or if the Xbox’s agreement with Samsung is exclusive.

In a blog post, Ashley McKissick, Corporate Vice President of Xbox Gaming Experiences and Platforms, wrote, “Playing Xbox games on Samsung 2022 TVs will be a seamless experience, similar to using other streaming apps on your TV.

“We are excited about what this next step means for all of you players. With this rollout, it’s easier than ever to play games on the devices you already own. With Xbox Game Pass Ultimate and a controller, you can easily jump into the world of gaming and connect with your friends and communities on Xbox.

This launch represents the fulfillment of a long-standing promise by the company to make Xbox Cloud Gaming available on the big screen without a console. Last month, Microsoft confirmed it works on a dedicated streaming donglebut a “decision to move away from the current iteration” means it’s extremely unlikely we’ll see anything on that front before 2023.
