TikTok was the world’s most downloaded non-game app in July 2021 with over 63 million installs, according to Sensor Tower data.
The largest number of installations came from Douyin in China at 15%, followed by the United States at 9%, according to the report.
The app also topped the revenue rankings in 2020 and continued to do so in the first half of 2021. It was the highest grossing non-game app in the world in the first half of 2021 both on the App Store and on Google Play, including Douyin on iOS in China.
“Consumers are expected to have spent over $ 920 million on TikTok during the first half of the year, up 74% from the period last year,” Sensor Tower said in its report.
In the first half of this year, the app also saw the highest number of downloads globally across both app stores, reaching around 384.6 million. However, downloads were down by around 38% year-on-year from nearly 619 million downloads in the first half of 2020. This was due to the fact that the app was no longer available in markets such as India. said Sensor Tower.
Facebook was the second most installed non-gaming app in the world in July 2021 with more than 53 million installs. India had the most installs of the app with 27%, followed by the United States with 7%. Instagram, Messenger and WhatsApp rounded out the list of the top five most installed non-gaming apps in the world for the month.
On the App Store, Facebook ranked fifth. YouTube, Instagram and WhatsApp ranked second, third and fourth on the list in terms of downloads.
On the Google Play Store, Facebook was at the top of the charts while TikTok was in second position. It was followed by Instagram, Messenger and WhatsApp.
