Ultimate Desktop combines PS5 and gaming PC in one system

Can’t decide if you’re a PC gamer or a console gamer? Well, you don’t have to make a choice. The folks at Modding Cafe have created a Franken gaming system that combines a high-end desktop gaming PC with Sony’s latest PlayStation 5 game console, making it compact and easy to switch between the two. It truly is the best of both worlds.

Modding Cafe’s desktop tower sits in a water-cooled ITX motherboard equipped with the Intel Core i9-11900K processor and Asus’ ROG Strix RTX 3080 graphics card for a high-end personalized gaming PC experience. On the PlayStation side, you also get a water-cooled console to help control temperatures when the unit is housed inside the office tower. RGB gaming lighting, clear tempered glass panels, and a compartmentalized housing design complete the modification job.

More importantly, however, with this modern dual-game setup comes some serious thermal management. This is especially important when you’re running a high-end, power-hungry PC alongside a modern, powerful console. Along with the vents and water-cooled setup, Modding Cafe has outfitted this PC with a number of fans, cooling packs, and heaters to help keep temperatures under control.

When completed this tower looks taller than traditional mid-size gaming towers, but you certainly get the versatility of being able to play PlayStation games or PC games. And with HDMI 2.1 support, you’ll be able to get stutter-free and lag-free gaming performance on compatible monitors when gaming on either system. There are two buttons on the top of the case – one powers the PC side, which is great for gaming, content creation, and productivity, and the second powers the PlayStation 5 console.

While Modding Cafe’s work incorporates the latest technology – AMD’s Radeon graphics on the PlayStation side as well as some of the newer and more powerful silicones available on the desktop side – this isn’t the first time that a desktop tower combines PC gaming and console gaming in one package.

Some early examples of such witchcraft include the Big O from storefront game maker Origin PC. Origin PC previously combined a PlayStation 4 with its gaming PC setup, and the company is in the process of updating the Big O to work with more modern consoles. When this design is released, it will give Modding Cafe’s custom PC a bit of competition.
