Spectra Jade Overclockers UK Prebuilt Gaming PC Review

Last update:

Overclockers UK are a go-to custom PC maker here in the UK and for good reason – they produce quality pre-built gaming PCs. OCUK recently released their latest line of pre-builts named “Spectra”. The Spectra range offers the same plug-and-play nature as previous systems, but now with Windows 11 pre-installed on every version. We managed to get our hands on Jade, a very capable mid-range system with 1440p resolution. This hits the sweet spot between price and performance, giving you a 12th Gen Intel Core i5-12400F processor and RTX 3060 graphics card, tackling AAA games with no problem.

In terms of full range, the prebuilt Jade sits a step above the Amber 1080p system and is ideal for those who want to game at maximum graphics, with high frame counts at 1440p. There’s gaming at 4K, especially when you’re taking advantage of Nvidia’s DLSS onboard the GPU. That being said, some games would require settings tweaks for a smooth experience, so for 4K, OCUK’s Azure system would be better suited.

Bios, setup and instructions

The first thing we like to look at with any prebuilt gaming PC is its packaging, to make sure the system arrived in good condition. The overall packaging, as expected from OCUK, was excellent, no components dislodged and the PC turned on immediately, tick.

The case is packed with foam and placed in the PC case box, before being protected with additional packaging.

It is important to note that the prebuilt Jade, like others in the Spectra range, comes with a warning advising you to be careful when removing any internal packaging. This helps avoid any last minute accidental damage on your end and is always welcome. You also receive a system configuration booklet, which is very useful for new users, helping you unbox the PC, connect your peripherals and start the configuration. The booklet also explains warranty details and the process to follow if you have any problems with your new PC.

Software installed:

  • Windows 11
  • motherboard drivers
  • GPU drivers
  • sound card drivers

Our final check is to jump into the BIOS to make sure the advertised RAM speeds have been set. We have RAM capable of running at 3200 MHz in this system and as expected it has been XMPed to achieve these speeds.

Manufacturing quality

Quality control is an important part of building custom PCs, and each customer will receive a QC check sheet. This will show you exactly what components are in the build, as well as any final checks made regarding build quality, driver installation, and general testing. We quickly went through the checklist and everything was completely successful.

It should be noted that some of the sub-components of a more affordable build like this will sometimes be less desirable to help save money. The Spectra Jade system’s RAM and power supply can fall into this bracket, but both are reliable and won’t cause any problems. The Kolink PSU is rated 80-Plus Bronze and is highly efficient, however, any major upgrades in the future may require a more powerful model. This is not a negative point, just something to consider when buying a prebuilt PC.

Every component and cable was securely installed, and the cable management was sufficient for chopping and changing drives without having to untangle everything.

The Kolink Citadel Glass SE case is visually pleasing for its price, however, there is a slight concern with airflow due to the large tempered glass front panel. The case has ventilation on either side of the panel, but that’s just not optimal and leads to a rather hot system. The PC performed as expected, there were no issues with the results which we’ll get to later, but it would make more sense to use a PC case that promotes airflow instead.

Other than that, the case is well built, the interior is spacious, the fan placement is great, and overall it feels very sturdy.

The Spectra Jade promises potential customers a mid-level system ideal for AAA gaming at 1440p and streaming. Sitting inside the jade is one of Intel’s latest next-gen processors, the 12400F, and the legendary RTX 3060 graphics card, so our expectations are high frames when playing at 1080p and 1440p in the maximum settings, with 4K performance.

Before we get into the benchmarks, it’s worth mentioning the performance that overclockers expect from this PC:

“PUBG can reach 170FPS+ at 1080p, 90FPS+ at 1440p and 65FPS+ at 4K. GTA V can be played at 140FPS+ at 1080p, 140FPS+ at 1440p and 60+ FPS at 4K, while Forza Horizon 5 reaches 100FPS+ at 1080p, 80FPS+ at 1440p and 55FPS+ at 4K.

FPS benchmarks for overclockers are provided as a guide, so let’s see how the Spectra Jade actually performed.

For testing purposes, we tested the system out of the box and disabled Nvidia’s AI-powered DLSS. We tested a balance of games to see how CPU-intensive and GPU-intensive games perform, as well as how the system handles Ray Tracing. Each test was performed using maximum graphics settings.

We tested the Spectra Jade gaming PC in Geekbench 5, a new benchmarking software that closely represents average daily CPU workloads. We specifically looked at its base score to get an overall impression.

We also recorded Timespy and Port Royal scores from 3D Mark to give us an overview of synthetic performance that can be easily compared.

3D mark

We tested the Spectra Jade gaming PC in five different games, trying to give some balance to those real-world benchmarks.

Games tested:

  • CS: GO
  • GTA 5
  • Eternal destiny
  • Days gone
  • Evil Genie 2

Days Gone is a demanding game and was the main struggle when it came to 4K benchmarks. 1440p, which this system is designed for, was fine, averaging 71FPS. 4K gaming was viable with settings tweaks, and considering we ran it at maximum settings, an average of 38fps on this title wasn’t a bad result.

One of the main selling points behind the Nvidia 30 series aside from DLSS is Ray Tracing. This tech can eat up performance, but is a much-appreciated feature when trying to immerse yourself in a single-player campaign. Doom Eternal with RTX performed very well and gamers can have a superb experience playing at 1440p and below. There was 4K performance again, however, it was noticeably less stable, but with some optimizations, DLSS and tweaks it is viable.

GTA5 performance was advertised on the OCUK website as over 140 frames when played at max settings of 1440p and it was more or less bob-on. We averaged around 150 frames at the highest settings at 1440p, which means there’s plenty of room to turn on RTX and get the most out of the Rockstar title.

CS:GO as expected ran like a dream and if you are a competitive gamer this gaming pc will easily help you achieve high FPS, high resolutions and allow you to use a high refresh rate monitor .

Last word

Overall, the OCUK Spectra Jade prebuilt gaming PC exceeded our early expectations, delivering fabulous results at 1080p and 1440p. The fact that there’s clearly 4K performance without optimized settings and DLSS means this is going to give you an amazing gaming experience for years to come.

The main issue we found was with the stock Intel CPU cooler. When stress testing the CPU, FPU, cache, and GPU for 30 minutes, we saw CPU throttling. In certain situations, such as a full PC load, the processor must slow down to avoid damage, which affects performance. That’s not entirely bleak, as most potential users of this PC version will likely only play on the system, where you’ll never experience these issues.

The PC case will run quite hot due to the front panel design, however, the chosen components work well inside this case, never producing more heat than the Kolink case can handle.

Small negatives aside, we have a great gaming PC here for beginners and hardcore gamers. No matter if you prefer immersive, graphically intensive single-player games or fast-paced multiplayer FPS titles, you can play anything you desire to great effect.

The main points to consider with any pre-built computer are whether it works as it should, whether it is reasonable in value, and how well the machine is put together. Overclockers have met and exceeded these main points to create a great little machine. Along with the preset good rating in our tests, there’s the added benefit of OCUK’s customer service and reputation, both of which are highly regarded.
