Facebook explains why its iOS gaming app is limited

Facebook games on iOS could be significantly hampered by guidelines from Apple’s App Store. Facebook took to Twitter to explain why its Gaming app is severely limited on iOS compared to its Android version.

“After months of repeated submissions and rejections by Apple, we had to remove Instant Games entirely from the standalone app,” the Twitter feed explains. “Citing App Store Guideline 4.7, Apple rejected the app, claiming that the primary purpose of the Facebook Gaming app is to play games. This is not the case. ~ 95% of app activity on Android comes from viewing live broadcasts. luck.”

Facebook is far from the only company to suffer from strict guidelines from the Apple App Store. Microsoft recently revealed that its xCloud service will not be coming to iOS at launch. Valve’s Steam Link has also encountered similar issues, and game streaming platforms like Google’s Stadia and Nvidia’s GeForce Now are still not available on iOS.
