TAMPA, FL – Players are invited to celebrate Friday the grand opening of a new esports lounge at the Emanuel P. Johnson Park & Recreation Center, the second esports gaming venue created and operated by Hillsborough County Parks & Break.
The grand opening of the Emanuel P. Johnson Park & Recreation Center esports lounge will take place from 5-8:30 p.m. on Friday, March 25.
Multiplayer video gaming is one of the fastest growing sports in the country, with millions of participants, a growing pool of professional gamers, and online tournaments attracting huge audiences.
The Hillsborough County esports program provides a fun and competitive gaming experience while fostering inclusion and a sense of community for participants of all ages.
At the Emanuel P. Johnson Park & Recreation Center, 5855 S. 78th St., Tampa, attendees can play esports in a dedicated game room with multiple 65-inch TVs. Gaming chairs, controllers, and games are provided, including popular titles like Fortnite, Super Smash Bros., Rocket League, Mario Kart, and others.
Games can be played with individual players or teams and may include online participants from other locations and opportunities to participate in tournaments.
In order to maintain a positive environment for players, in-game audio and chat features are disabled. Participation is free.
The open days will take place on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 6:30 p.m.
In November, Hillsborough County Parks & Recreation opened its first esports arcade at Northdale Park & Recreation Center.
